10/15/08 Update from Sean

Our Transforming Stress class went well and was completely full. We are planning on presenting this again before the end of the year. I'll update the classes page when we get a date set.

The Foundations of Medical Qigong workshop this Saturday (the 18th) is full. However, I am pleased to announce that Erin Meyers is teaching the Foundations of Medical Qigong Workshop on November 9th in Sebastopol. Erin can be contacted directly at (707) 849-5728 or through the website.

The Foundations of Medical Qigong workshop is a prerequisite for next year's Comprehensive Medical Qigong Program. The Comprehensive Medical Qigong Program is a 6 month program that includes a monthly 3 hour class, a half-hour of private training during the month and the development of an individualized training program for home. Throughout the program we will focus on developing a skillful practice and understanding of Qigong through the context of Chinese medicine and Medical Qigong theory. Please see our Classes Page for more information on any of these classes.

I have removed our tea shop page, although we will still have certified organic Goji berries, certified organic Chrysanthemum and certified organic jasmine pearls for sale at the Center. I started the online tea shop when it was very difficult to obtain high quality pu-erh tea. Fotunately, there are now excellent sources around, such as Tillerman Tea in Napa, Imperial Tea Court in Berkeley, San Francisco and online, and Teance in Berkeley.

4/9/08 Update from Sean

I have updated quite a bit of the website - take a look around if it has been a little while. I'll continue to add new information and updates over the next week or so. Enjoy the springtime!

For more information on this sustainable and organic approach to Chinese medicinal herbs visit Fu Tian Herbs. As I have mentioned before, this has been a long term project that Peggy Schafer and I have been working on.

3/30/07 Update from Sean

It has been a busy 6 weeks!

Our Open House on March 7th went well. There was wonderful food provided by the Water Street Bistro in Petaluma, excellent wine from Arnot-Roberts Winery and high grade teas for everybody's enjoyment. We had around 50 guests, making it an exciting celebration of our new space!

The March 24th Foundations of Medical Qigong workshop was full, with a great group of students. The next workshop will be in May or June - I'll post the dates as soon as I have them figured out.

All of our 2006 newsletters are now up on our 2006 Newsletter Archive page and I will soon start putting together the newsletters from the first quarter of this year.

If you haven't had a chance yet please visit Fu Tian Herbs website. This is a project that Peggy Schafer and I have been working on for quite awhile.

2/7/07 Update from Sean

We are happy to announce that we will be having an Open House on Wednesday, March 7th from 6-8pm. This will be an opportunity to see our new office and dispensary, chat with us and enjoy some of our teas and other refreshments.

More news soon!

12/26/06 Update from Sean

We have moved our office!
We have been at our 6th Street location for about four and a half years, and, while we love the building, we have outgrown it. Our new location will allow us to have our herb dispensary onsite and additional consultation rooms. Our new location is at 5 Keller Street, Suite A in the Connor Professional Building. It is about a block and a half away from our current office and close to the downtown. See our directions page for directions and our contact page for our new mailing address.

10/9/06 Update from Sean

The above picture shows the Koi in the pool at our office, with a reflection of the fountain. The quote is one of my favorite passages from the Huainanzi text. For another view of the fountain see our Office Information page.

10/1/06 Update from Sean

I have sent out our October email newsletter and have put the September newsletter on our 2006 Newsletter Archive page. If you missed it, the September newsletter has two feature articles, including a description of how we mix and process our herbal formulas.

9/21/06 Update from Sean

I have added a shopping cart feature to our Online Tea Shop. All of our teas can now be purchased online.

8/30/06 Update from Sean

I have been thinking about the above quote for a little while, so I decided to put back up. It is from Chapter 1 of the Neijing Suwen, the most important classical text on Chinese medicine. The photo is from the Japanese Botanical Garden in Portland (from a trip last year).

We will be sending our September newsletter out on the first, and I will be adding the last two newsletters to the archive then.

I am now carrying a small line of organic teas in addition to our high grade Palace Pu-erh. Take a look at our revised Online Tea Shop for more information on the teas, including brewing instructions for each tea.

8/15/06 update from Sean
I am happy to announce that the Palace Pu-erh Tea is available (see our Online Tea Shop for more information) for shipping. I have been getting great reviews from people who have tried it - it really is a unique tea!

7/22/06 Update from Sean
Site Update
I have updated the site structure to make it easier to navigate and will be making some more additions soon.
I have added the June newsletters to the Newsletter Archive. The main article of the first June newsletter is on Environmental Influences as External Factors that affect the health. The second June newsletter discusses the Emotions as Internal Factors.

Credit Cards
We are now accepting credit card payment in the office and over the phone, as well as on the website.

Tea Update
I regularly drink Pu-erh tea and have been wanting to offer it to clients in the office for its health benefits. While there are some good teas available in the Bay Area, high grade Pu-erh tea is generally not sold outside of China, where it has become extremely popular. I am excited to have found a reputable supplier in China that is willing to ship high grade Pu-erh to the U.S., so I will soon be offering a premium Pu-erh called Palace Pu-erh (Gongting Pu-erh, literally "Royal Court Pu-erh"). As the name suggests, this is the type of Pu-erh that was served to high ranking officials in the palaces of China.
Pu-erh Tea is a type of tea that is fermented and aged - it is actually the only tea that improves with age. Many people are collecting this type of tea to age, just as they would with wine. The Palace Pu-erh has been aged 8 years and is suitable for storing and aging further. Within Chinese medicine, Pu-erh tea is said to benefit the digestion, transform dampness and promote the normal movements of the blood and body fluids. In modern China it is commonly recommended to improve the digestion, address high cholesterol and regulate the weight. And, perhaps most importantly, it has a wonderful and distinct taste that often brings me back to drink it twice a day!

6/30/06 Update from Sean
Site & Newsletter Update
I have updated the newsletter archive with the May newsletters and made a new page for the 2005 newsletter archive. We've just mailed the latest newsletter, with the topic being the emotions as one of the three causative factors for health disorders. I've put a quote from Elisabeth Rochat on this page (above)to reinforce the topic. We have also made several updates to the structure of the site.

Medical Qigong
We have just had our last Wednesday night Medical Qigong class. After holding the weekly class for over eleven years I am taking a break to focus on a couple of other projects through the summer. I will be resuming teaching an ongoing Medical Qigong class in the early fall, with a longer class that will meet once a month or so. I'll likely have the next Foundations of Medical Qigong workshop in the late summer. I'll keep posting updates in the newsletter and on our classes page.

Update 5/29/06
Chinese Herbs for the Jewish Community Free Clinic in Cotati, CA
Lori Zarr and Erin (an intern here) are in acupuncture school at the Acupuncture and Integrated Medicine College (AIMC) of Berkeley and are now in the clinical intern phase of the program. Part of those hours are being filled at the Jewish Community Free Clinic in Cotati, which provides medical care to low-income clients that do not have health insurance . In conjunction with AIMC, the Jewish Community Free Clinic is offering acupuncture and Chinese medicine services. We are going to be providing Chinese herbal medicine to the clients that Lori, Erin and some of the other interns see (when the interns and supervisors prescribe it) at cost or free, depending on what the clients can afford. To support Chinese herbal medicine for the community we are accepting small donations to cover the cost of the herbal medicine for those that can't afford it. Even adding a few dollars to payment for herbs or consultations will help us to do this. Any funds received in excess of the herb costs will be donated directly to the free clinic. Please feel free to contact me for more information on this program.

Credit Cards
We are now using PayPal to accept credit and debit cards on our website. You can pay for herbs, office visits, consultations and classes by clicking the PayPal button on our home page. Once you click the link you will be taken to a secure page hosted by PayPal. You then simply fill in what it is you are paying for, enter the amount and follow the instructions. It is not necessary to have a PayPal account to use this service.
