Cultivate your Knowledge Internship Program Description

Would you like to gain understating and deepen your relationship with Chinese herbs through their cultivation? This program will follow the seasonal progression of growing herbs from seed sowing and pot culture in the nursery in preparation for either sale or field transplant. Field production will start with field preparation, irrigation set up, planting, cultivation and harvesting and drying of 75+ leaf, flower, seed and root herb crops.

Perhaps you would like to see and use quality herbs, or are concerned about losing access to herbs and thus are interested in assisting in the development of Chinese herbs as a domestic emerging market? Chinese Medicinal Herbs operates partly as an experimental farm to explore these possibilities as well as aid herb conservation.

Experience a hands-on production oriented nursery and field work with the guidance of Peg Schafer; educator and nationally recognized Asian herb grower.

The program runs from March through November, two Saturdays a month with one Saturday a month minimum obligation, space is limited. Interns should be prepared and committed to work to the best of their ability. A delicious vegetarian lunch will be served and lunchtime discussion of herbs can be further explored. Introduction to Chinese Medicinal Herb Farm

Thank you for your interest in Chinese Medicinal Herbs. We are a nursery and farm about an hour north of San Francisco. We specialize in organically grown Chinese, Ayurvedic and other Asian medicinal herb starter plants and field grown herbs and seeds. Organic certification is through Marin Organic Certified Agriculture, registration number 49-0284. Our goal is to grow the highest quality herbs with the best medicinal value possible for you or your client’s good health. We grow sustainably; in harmony with nature that guides us and helps us feel good about what we do and how we do it. Harvesting of all field grown herbs is done by hand ensuring a superior product.  Aromatic herbs still carry their distinct scents, leaves tend to be whole and unbroken, colors are vibrant, and integrity is present. We have been  growing Chinese botanicals since 1997 and we have been fortunate enough to have had the guidance and kinship of many renowned experts including acupuncturists, Chinese herbalists, botanists, fellow growers, and many other wonderful folks, all of whom have worked together to bring Asian herbal medicine to the health enhancement of our friends and neighbors. We invite you to come and visit the greenhouse, nursery area, demonstration gardens and the growing grounds.  Please give us a call or email to set up a visit or inquire about herbs.
